Happy Valentine’s Day, Kumquats!
I’ve been hermit-ing hard this winter….deep in the “wood shed” as my friend Burgundy Brixx calls the creative place that artists retire to in order to channel their creativity into material form.
One of the projects I have been working on was inspired by the classic vaudeville effect known in the biz as a HALF & HALF ACT. This is where one performer plays 2 characters, typically a man and a woman….or a woman and a devil…or a woman and some other creature.
This can also be accomplished with a puppet.
I like taking traditional things and giving them my own spin. As one of my comedy teachers told me in the way-back days, all artists “steal” in the sense that we all are inspired by each other and we like to imitate what we see. But real artists take that inspiration and make it their own, to the point that the original inspiration wouldn’t / shouldn’t / couldn’t be able to recognize themselves in it.
This is part of my beef with the younger generation who lifts ideas off the internet and puts them on like a disposable coat. The first step in creativity is imitation. That is what babies and children do. They imitate to learn. It’s a necessary but very immature stage of the creative process. That is not the same as art. Inspiration has to be infused with creativity, inspiration, your unique flavor and personality. It takes time.
But I digress. I didn’t come here to bitch about “the kids today.”
I came here to let you know that I made something for Valentine’s Day!
Working with found and recycled materials I made something outta nothing— and it’s very silly and fun! It premieres at 12 noon PST / 3pm EST on YouTube.
You can look this as my homage to vaudeville….and to the silent movie stars that rose up out of vaudeville.
You can look at it as cheeky demonstration of shadow integration too. LOL.
You can also just look it as goofy slap stick comedy for your entertainment.
However you want to see it, just be sure to see it!
And spread it around!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Much LOVE,
Trixie
PS For those of you into behind-the-scenes stuff— you can see me working through the effects and characters in this screen test I made a few weeks back.
Haha I loved it! Thank you for the laugh 😂💋
